Introduction

Injury prevention

Physical activity is vitally important for a healthy life. People choose a type of exercise based on multiple different factors; fulfillness, location, season, accessibility, health issues, body structure, social circle and the list goes on. Usually one can choose an activity or a sport they really enjoy, as this ensures more consistent participation over a long period of time. Whichever one they choose though, there is always an accompanied injury risk. That risk is obviously not the same between different sports. Injury occurrence is so multifactorial that it’s extremely difficult to attribute the prevalence to a single cause. In reality the only way to prevent an injury 100% from an activity, is by not doing it. But the benefits of exercise outweigh the risks dramatically. The aim, despite the fact you always hear about “injury prevention”, is to minimise the risk that an injury will happen as much as possible. The human body is a living organism and therefore during exercise it requires more energy to function than what it does at rest and it therefore fatigues quicker. Below you can find information on physical activity, nutrition, hydration and sleep.
